At this time of year shade can be good one day and bad the next, the answer a roof that moves out of the way when you want it to. But what if that roof is north facing and your best spot for a PV system; it turns out you can have it all. These two projects (here and here) have sliding roofs that use the PV panels themselves to create shade. In the same spirit that created the operable shade and fire shutters in our Mudgee project, a single element provides multiple benefits and all bought together using off-the-shelf parts most commonly found in a chandlery.
