This is the tale of the journey of a single family home as it morphs from passive solar to passivhaus. The benefits of passive house are well-known but the costs remain a mystery to many.
The project has been priced seven ways by four contractors. What are the cost implications of passivhaus? Is it all about the windows? What is the premium for air tightness? How do builders price risk? How much does a passivhaus cost in Sydney in 2019?
This paper was delivered as a presentation at the South Pacific Passive House Conference, and is still as relevant today (approx 5 years later) as it was at the time of the research.

Andy joined Dick Clarke at Envirotecture as a young architect, gaining significant experience in designing genuinely sustainable buildings, both residential and non-residential, in Australia and overseas.
